Cell world

I attended a wedding recently, that was after I received the invitation via my mobile. I recognized the fellow sitting next me. He happened to be my colleague way back. He was known to be a man of few words. Tentatively I asked him about his cell just as he was checking his gmail. He went on telling about its make, features, etc. so graphically. Later he went on about the pictures of his family and friends and how he took them with such skill that a professional photographer would envy him.

All through this monologue he displayed certain intense expression in his eyes that showed how much he cared for his people through his mobile. It is the only thing nearer our heart in the shirt pocket cooing tunes. We have to play their tune perforce. Further he talked about his work and how his cell would make him connect with the entire world while he was marketing a variety of his company products. He also boasted he catered to thousands of customers for his office while running its million dollar businesses. I was aghast looking at his sudden talkativeness. Soon his wife joined us and inquired whether I had broached the topic of his cell phone by any chance and that explained.

Next, the fellow sitting in the row behind tapped on my back to ask for my facebook name, so that he could add me as his friend then and there. Soon the sacred knot was tied on the stage meant for the wedding ceremony. I stood up to go and greet the newly wedded couple. The person, who was ahead of me in the queue meant for the greeters, talked to the man in front of him about the novelty of the cell he was going to present to the groom.

Boy, could I escape this cell world! Who is not on mobile these days? Especially in India, its number is overtaking the census figure for our population. How dear is cell to me that I cannot deny, I too can’t live a second without it. I keep it close at hand on my bed, only to use it as a torch to check time from the wall clock. This is despite mobiles have time of their own. I have mental fixation that wall clocks always say the correct time than their second cousin in mobiles and computers.
No doubt the mobile has come a long way to become a sine qua non in every walk of life. Especially being a multipurpose gadget it is beyond our imagination with respect to its future breakthroughs to make life easier. I wish it would soon help us in repelling mosquitoes, if anyone did not patent an application already. I for one, wish fans and lights at my home, including TV, are clicked on using this magic-wand of our modern era.

All said/ chatted, the various campaigns for paperless world made its use indispensable. The other day I waved the SMS message received from the railways at the ticket collector as E-ticket in place of the good old paper train ticket.

The cell phone I carried in 2000 was of Motorola-make presented by my brother from abroad. It used to be very large compared to the present-day thinner versions. Those days I used to be asked, if I was a police officer using walky-talky. I have a phobia for stray dogs and I used it shoo them off in the gullies (by lanes) of our ancient city.

Talking of by lanes I see some young girls walking alone on the streets while either returning from office or college. They talk on their cell phones ceaselessly. It should be definitely making them secure and comfortable while they got so connected with someone known to them while avoiding eve teasers and chain snatchers.

The hazards of so many cell phones should be of concern. The evil effects of our exposure to radiation or whatever it emanates are not yet researched fully. Despite innumerable features cell phone has, I am sure that the majority of lay users will have no clue how to handle them, as long as they are aware how it is operated to receive a call merely. With regard to closing it, thank heavens the same will disconnect automatically.

I hardly use internet through my mobile for fear of those costly tariffs. I use the cell for internet through my home computer that has a router to share. Yet I got a bill for data transfer one fine morning from my service provider. Later I found out my grandson fiddled with my cell phone. He reportedly pressed some buttons randomly and got connected to the net. He is hardly two years old and he loves 'Baba Black Sheep' rhyme on YouTube that I saved as a streaming link on my mobile.

Now, a toddler’s first choice among other playthings is cell phone. I wondered could it be anything else for the adults.
